Northwest Ohio: Toledo and the lake plains

Northwest Ohio is the flattest driving in the state — the old lake plain runs straight and open from Toledo to the Indiana line, and the wind has nothing to slow it down. That wind is a fuel fact: an exposed farmhouse out here burns noticeably more on a windy 25-degree night than the same house in a sheltered hollow, because the wind strips heat off the building and drives infiltration. Tank setups follow the farms — 500- and 1,000-gallon propane tanks are common, and plenty of older farmhouses still run oil. Toledo itself keeps a pocket of oil heat in its older neighborhoods. Routes are long and straight, and the delivery challenge here isn't terrain, it's distance and drifted lanes after a lake squall.
