Northeast Ohio: Cleveland – Akron – Canton and the snow belt

Northeast Ohio is the heartland of Ohio oil heat. Cleveland, Akron, and the older suburbs were built with oil furnaces and basement 275s, and enough of them remain that real heating-oil dealers still run full routes here — something you can't say for most of the state. It's also lake-effect country: the snow belt east of Cleveland starts burning fuel earlier, burns it harder, and keeps burning it later than anywhere else in Ohio, which makes automatic delivery and honest gauges worth more here than anywhere. Propane fills in the rural townships between the metros. One regional courtesy worth knowing: in snow-belt driveways, a cleared path to the fill pipe is the difference between a delivery and a "could not access" tag on the door.
